δόξα, ἡ (δοκέω), Meinung, Ansicht, Vorstellung, Erwartung; Geltung, Ruf, Ruhm. Homer zweimal: Iliad. 10, 324 σοὶ δ' ἐγὼ οὐχ ἅλιος σκοπὸς ἔσσομαι, οὐδ' ἀπὸ δόξης, ich werde von deiner Erwartung nicht fern sein, d. h. ich werde deine Erwartungen nicht täuschen, werde sie erfüllen, vgl. Scholl. u. Apoll. Lex. Hom. p. 60, 15, welche δό-ξης durch δοκήσεως erklären; Odyss. 11, 344 οὐ μὰν ἧμιν ἀπὸ σκοποῠ οὐδ' ἀπὸ δόξης μυϑεῖται βασίλεια περίφρων· ἀλλὰ πίϑεσϑε, die Königin redet nicht fernab vom Ziele und von der Erwartung, d. h. ihre Worte treffen das Ziel u. die Erwartung, sie sagt was wir beabsichtigten und erwarteten. – Folgende: 1) die Meinung (Vorstellung, Ansicht, Erwartung), welche man hegt; παρὰ δόξαν Plat. Phaed. 95 a; παρὰ δόξαν ἢ ὡς αὐτὸς κατεδόκεε, anders als er erwartet hatte, Her. 1, 79. 8, 4; δόξης ἁμαρτίᾳ Thuc. 1, 32; κατὰ δόξαν, der Erwartung, Ansicht nach, Plat. Bei den Philosophen, bes. den Akademikern, = Vorstellung, Meinung, im Ggstz des Wahren u. Wirklichen; ἀντὶ δόξης ἀλήϑειαν Plat. Conv. 218 e; vgl. Arist. Eth. Nic. 6, 9, 10. wie auch Antiph. 3 β 2 δόξῃ καὶ μὴ ἀληϑείᾳ τὴν κρίσιν ποιήσασϑαι sagt; im Ggstze von γνῶσις Plat. Rep. V, 478 c; dah. geradezu = Vorurtheil, Wahn, Einbildung; Aesch. κατεργάζομαι mid. dep., Att. fut. 2 sg. κατεργᾷ Dt 28:39; 1 aor. κατειργασάμην; perf. κατείργασμαι. Pass.: fut. 2 pl. κατεργασθήσεσθε Ezk 36:9; aor. κατειργάσθην (on κατηργασάμην and κατηργάσθην s. B-D-F §67, 3; W-S. §12, 1; Mlt-H. 189) (Soph., Hdt.+).① to bring about a result by doing someth., achieve, accomplish, do τὶ someth. Dt 1:23 v.l.; 2 Km 3:36). φανεροῦσθαι ἐ. τοῦ θεοῦ 2 Cor 7:12; cp.
